Guidelines for Preparing for a Consulting Visit

INITITIAL CONSULTING VISIT AGENDA

My first visit is really a fact finding needs assessment. I will meet with the Client’s managers, and their technical team members to determine:

  • Client’s current EDM applications
  • EDM processes and methodologies currently employed by Client or the Client’s vendor(s)
  • Shortcomings with current processes and methodologies as described by Client staff members
    • Capabilities
    • Quality
    • Productivity
  • New applications envisioned by Client
  • New processes or process improvements envisioned by Client
  • Client’s priorities for consultant focus

During the course of my visit, I may point out certain observations and make certain “on-the-fly” recommendations. I would also expect to do some brainstorming with Client’s staff.

In order to maximize the productivity of my initial visit, it is important that the Client make certain that preparations for my visit have been completed:

  • Purchase order covering the Scope of Work
  • Executed NDA’s
  • Key staff members have scheduled availability for that day
  • Clearance for Client’s workshop or vendor facility visits has been obtained
  • Key items have been assembled:
    • Drawings
    • Specifications
    • Sample parts
    • Process sheets
    • Test reports

Subsequent to my visit, if requested by the client, I will submit a written report containing:

  • Observations
  • General recommendations based upon the observations
  • Suggestions for future activities
