MEASURING THREADS

In the Sinker EDM world, we most commonly encounter threads:
• To burn thread features in workpieces to accommodate fasteners (either because they were left out or
because the workpiece material cannot be tapped by conventional methods, as is the case with carbide.)
• To burn threaded mold cavities.

While the ﬁ rst case often does not require thread measurements, the second case requires measurements of not
only the electrode, but also the resulting cavity.

This article will delve into the nitty gritty of thread measurement.
